A Couple Of Picks For Today

I looked at several Indiana Downs races for today and see a couple which has the potential to pay decent. I will probably take a small exotic shot at both of these races but since I like a race more tomorrow at Evangeline Downs, I eill wait until then to bet my usual amount on that race.

Ind. Race 2: Maiden Special Weight ---$31,000-- 2 YO-- Five Furlongs:

5) His Glory(8-1) is well bred and makes the first start of his career. However, he has worked in company with the favorite in this race twice and the favorite beat him once for sure and they finished side by side in the latter work. Trainer Amoss is a top trainer and knows how to get them prepared. If the first work his stablemate already had a couple of works under his belt, si he had the advantage in that work, which was my choice his published work. He has 2 more works in 2 weeks since then, while the favorite has only the one they worked in company.

8) Hopes And Prayers(9-2) has 2 lifetime starts, finishing 3rd in both, the first at 2 furlongs and the latter at 5 furlongs that was taken off the grass. However, he is among the best bred in here and holds an experience edge over the other two I like. He also returns in 11 days since his last, so trainer thinks he is fit.

11)Magine(3-1) is the stablemate of my top choice but I like my pick better for one simple reason. His works since he started training has been consistent but this one's works has been spread out a little more than I preferred, indicating he either needs time between works or he may have some sort of a minor physical problem. The better jockey chose this one, though.

7)Two More Times(15-1) is another who could jump up and run a big race. he also has one start and finished third on a muddy track. But his sire Soldat is a son of speedy sire War Front and Two More Times's broodmare sire, Pioneerof The Nile is sire of TC winner, American Pharoah. Pioneerof the Nile was also speedy and finished 2nd in the Ky Derby to Mine That Bird who ran away with that edition of the derby on a muddy track.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7th Race: Allowance O/C $25,000--- 3 YO & Up F&M ---- Purse $32,500--- 5 Furlongs Turf:

2) Niece Jackie Davis(15-1) will be my top choice. Her trainer, Haran, is sneaky but knows how to get one ready and usually pops one when others does not believe his horse has a chance. Two starts back, this horse won an allowance N/W 3 lifetime against Ind breds, but rose in class to face open breds in her last and got crushed. Sine that effort, she has came back and worked, an indication the trainer still thinks she is fit. Rxpect big odds because you will probably get them here with this one. Her sire was a speedy sprinter on dirt but her broodmare sire was also speedy and actually won a stakes at Hollywood Park on grass in 101 1/5 for 5 1/2 furlongs and he hails from the sire line of Uncle Mo, known for their speed on grass.

8) Sugarsugarsugar(8-5) is the favorite in here and will be the one to beat. She was beaten N/W 2 lifetime at this track, surface and distance last year, but has improve since then. She has won 3 of 4 starts this year but her last at Belterra was slightly easier than this field. However, she likes to make a late run and there is enough early speed in here that she should be rolling in deep stretch and be tough to deny.

7) Southern Candy(30-1) will be my choice for third but she could upset if my top choice does not break cleanly. Her sire, Sidney's Candy was a turf and AWT specialist who took the SA Derby from gate to wire and won for fun when that track had an AWT. He also broke his maiden in 102 and change in his 2nd lifetime start on that surface. Southern Candy's 3rd dam, Pattern Step, won the G1 Hollywood Oaks on dirt in 1988 after just missing in both the Senorita S and Honeymoon H, both on grass at 1 mile & 1 1/16 mile. The only reason she is not my top choice is because I know little about the trainer, who is fairly new to the game.

I am including the race for tomorrow at Evangeline Downs. This track used to be my 2nd favorite track to bet when it was a "bull ring" and have many solid days there but they rebuilt and moved a few miles up the road so they could add a casino. They have grown in popularity since while La Downs has fallen on hard times, mainly because another casino brought them and has refused to invest in their racing side of the business.

5th Race: Evangeline Downs---- Maiden Special Weight---- La Bred 3 YO & Up Fillies and Mares---- Purse $24,000--- 7 1/2 Furlongs Turf:

5) Marywood(10-1) will be my choice to win. Her trainer also has 2 entered in this race but I feel this is a better spot for this one. She has 2 lifetime starts. After breaking poorly in her first start on dirt at 5 1/2 furlongs, she did not run much at all. She was then entered on grass and stretched out to 1 1/16 mile. Again, she broke near the back, and made a late run to just miss while finishing 3rd at 28-1. She does not have a work since then, but since I know this trainer's intentions, it does not bother me as much as it normally would. Her sire, Paddy O'Prado, ran 3rd in the 2010 Ky Derby in the mud and after a 6th in the Preakness, he was switched back to grass and won 2 G2 and the G1 Secretariat S in his first 3 starts back on that surface. His only 3 off the board races in his life was on dirt. Her broodmare sire, Kissin Kris, won the G1 Haskell Inv. for his biggest win but also won the G3 Palm Beach S on grass. His sire hails from the Roberto sire line.

8) Labruna(10-1) is my choice for 2nd but you will probably get much higher odds than her M/L suggests. After making 10 starts which included a 2nd and a 3rd, both on grass and one start this year, she was idled for 3 months where she was privately purchased and switched trainers. She returned on the grass and pressured the pace to the top of the stretch before fading badly at 1 1/16 mile. Now she is being shortening back up to a distance that should be more suitable for her. Her sire, Big Brown won the 2008 Ky Derby & Preakness but has had more success siring grass runners, as his pedigree success he should. Her broodmare sire, Bandini, was the third choice for the 2005 Ky Derby after running away with the Blue Grass S, but finished 19th of 20th. While Bandini was never tried on grass, his pedigree, too, suggests he would have probably performed better on that surface. Labruna's trainer, Walter Trahan, comes from a family known to pull shockers when least expected and this horse fits that profile.

6) Ide B A Soldier(3-1) has a 2nd and 2 thirds from 4 lifetime starts but is making his debut on grass. He should drop back early and move along with my top choice. While he has a chance to win, I believe third is the best place to put him. His trainer, Dale White Sr knows how to get a horse ready but his only work since his last start is a little slower than I would prefer, especially since he will be near, if not, the favorite at off time. However, he has grass bloodlines and his broodmare sire was a leading sire in Louisiana for several years, so I can not totally dismiss.

1) Temple Of Roses(5-1) has 5 lifetime starts, including 4 on grass including a 2nd and a 3rd. She is being stretched back out after her last start at 5 1/2 furlongs on grass was simply a tactic a lot of trainers uses to try to get their trainees to show more early speed. She also has a work since then suggesting she has some speed but I already had realize that, judging by her three previous races at 1 mile. She just hasn't been able to finish the deal. While her recent activity could be enough to get her over the top, my bet will be that it will not be quite enough. However, she has the look of one that is ready to break her maiden and the one who wins the pace battle between her and my 2nd choice, should still around for the exacta and/or tri.

My Bets: WP 5, Ex Box 5-8, Tri Box 5-6-8, .10 Super Box 1-5-6-8, Super Key 5 with 1-6-8 with 1-6-8 with 1-6-8.

One more note, there are several other trainers in this race that will take a lot of money, so if you can hit this race, you will be likely to be rewarded well. And that is what I always hope for.

REVRAD World Tour: Cincinnati, OH

GREEN DAY REVOLUTION RADIO TOUR
August 20, 2017 / Riverbend Music Center / Cincinnati, OH
General Info:
Doors: 5:30pm
Show: 7:00pm
If you have GA lawn, I'd suggest getting there as early as possible. Riverbend is an older amphitheater, built more for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra than with rock concerts in mind, so it's built for sound, not sight. There are honestly a lot of places your view is going to be terrible, if you can see anything at all.
Concert Capacity:20,500 (6,000 reserved seats and 14,500 on the lawn)
Weather: 89°/67° - Mostly sunny with 72% humidity. It's gonna be hot and sticky. Prepare accordingly and please hydrate.
Opening band: Catfish & The Bottleman
Getting There:
Address: 6295 Kellogg Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio 45230 venue photo
Directions: Here. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE SIGNS POSTED AROUND THE EXIT. Riverbend is right next to Belterra Park Casino and Coney Island Amusement Park, so sometimes concert traffic will be directed one way and casino traffic a different way even though they are in the same direction.
Parking: Parking is included in the price of every ticket. Ample parking is available in all surrounding lots labeled Event Parking. Additional parking for concerts will be available at Coney Island. Accessible parking is available in all lots.
If you get there before parking opens, or if you don't want to deal with waiting forever to get out of the parking lot once the show ends, you can park at Belterra Casino next door and walk over.
Fan Meet Up:
If anyone is interested in a meet up before or after let me know and I'll work on setting it up. I'd recommend Belterra next door if we don't have anyone under 21 (I know at least one person from this subreddit who is attending is turning 21 at midnight so we'll need to buy them a drink.)
Set Lists:
Last Show: Toronto, ON
This Show: Cincinnati, OH
Notes:
Please keep all show discussion in this thread, any posts related to this concert (besides photo's & video) will be deleted.
I'm more than happy to provide recommendations for places to eat or hang out, especially if you're coming from out of town, but that's hard without knowing preferences so comment below or message me and I'll help you out. I've lived in Cincinnati more than half my life (I live less than 15 minutes from the venue) and this city has a lot of unique things to offer.
Try some freaking Skyline. If you're not into the classic chili spaghetti, they have a super delicious vegetarian chili too, and GREAT salads, and are very reasonably priced.
If you've got time and also the money to spend and are over 21, the buffet at the casino next door to the venue is great and is fantastic at catering to specific dietary needs and special requests. I'm vegetarian with allergies and my sister needs everything gluten-free and it's one of the few places we both can enjoy ourselves without stressing about it.

5 months, 2 weeks (maybe)... how about this in the meantime?

So it looks like Dubai may kick off the 2015 season on Feb 15th 2015 - but that's still over five months away. Personally, I'm no fan of football (of any type) and F1 and NASCAR just aren't the same.
So, how about we replay a past season up here on /indycar? Most of the old races are on YouTube and we can have a race thread for each round, talking about what happens.
As a bit of a starter, I've looked into 2001, which was my first full CART season and a bit of a corker. We've got a total of 35 races between CART and the IRL:

2001 season rewatch, weekend 17: Miller Lite 200, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (CART); Belterra Resort Indy 300, Kentucky Speedway (IRL)

AFTER BRIEF RESPITE, RECHARGED FedEx CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RETURNS TO ACTION IN MILLER LITE 200 AT MID-OHIO
DETROIT--The FedEx Championship Series recently concluded its most grueling stretch of the season, with six races in seven weeks. The run began with reigning Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves' second victory of the season at Detroit, and ended with 2000 CART Rookie of the Year Kenny Brack's third win of the year at Chicago.
Now, as the series heads to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Miller Lite 200 (Noon ET Sunday, live, ESPN), Brack (Shell Ford-Cosworth/Lola) leads the championship chase with 104 points and Castroneves (Marlboro Honda/Reynard) is his closest pursuer, with 82. But a handful of other drivers remain in contention for the Vanderbilt Cup, emblematic of the FedEx Championship Series Championship, as the series enters its 13th round in Lexington.
Which is pretty much what you'd expect from a championship that has produced eight different winners in the season's first 11 completed events, not to mention a staggering 18 different podium finishers in that same span. That has already established a CART record for different podium finishers in a season, topping the 17 of 1995 and '96, while CART's record for different winners in a campaign is 11, established last year.
At the head of the most competitive driver lineup in the world at present is Brack, whose three victories this season are a series high. His victory at Chicago put him back in the points after back-to-back scoreless finishes at Toronto and Michigan.
All of Brack's victories have come on ovals this year – the other two were recorded at Japan and Milwaukee – but Team Rahal knows how to prepare for road-course competition as well, as evidenced by teammate Max Papis' (Miller Lite Ford-Cosworth/Lola) victory at the most recent road-course event in Portland.
Castroneves, meanwhile, will be looking for a repeat of last year's dominant Marlboro Team Penske performance at Mid-Ohio, when teammate Gil de Ferran (Marlboro Honda/Reynard) won the pole and Castroneves started on the outside. The two then combined to lead all 83 laps and finish one-two in the race, with Castroneves on top.
Castroneves has claimed a pair of victories this season, at Long Beach and Detroit, and has scored 50 of his 82 championship points on road or street courses. He holds a one-point lead over Dario Franchitti (KOOL Honda/Reynard) of Team KOOL Green, who stands third in the championship with 81 points. Franchitti, who owns a victory at Cleveland this season, is a two-time pole-sitter (1998, '99) at Mid-Ohio who also owns a podium finish of third at the venue in 1999.
Michael Andretti (Motorola Honda/Reynard) of Team Motorola, who stands fourth in the championship with 73 points, is a two-time winner at Mid-Ohio (1990, '91) who also owns three career pole positions (1990-92) at the track. Andretti holds a one-point edge over fifth-place de Ferran, the defending FedEx Championship Series champion and defending Mid-Ohio pole-sitter, who arrives off a podium finish of third at Chicago which brought his season total to 72 points.
Joining Castroneves and Andretti as previous winners at Mid-Ohio are Alex Zanardi (PioneeWorldCom Honda/Reynard) of Mo Nunn Racing, who won back-to-back at Mid-Ohio in 1996 and '97; and Adrian Fernandez (Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Reynard) of Fernandez Racing, who logged his third of seven career victories at Mid-Ohio in 1998.
Following the Miller Lite 200, the FedEx Championship Series makes its annual visit to Elkhart Lake, Wis., this season for the Motorola 220, August 17-19 at Road America.
WHO'S HOT
• FedEx Championship Series championship leader Kenny Brack (Shell Ford-Cosworth/Lola) of Team Rahal has won a series-high three events this season, the first three victories of his FedEx Championship Series career. Brack, CART's 2000 Rookie of the Year, has recorded victories at Japan, Milwaukee and Chicago, and his additional top-five finishes of second at Nazareth and fifth at Mexico have helped move him into the FedEx Championship Series championship lead with 104 points. Brack's victory at Chicago gave him six finishes of fourth or better in as many career starts on one-mile ovals. He also owns four pole positions this season, at Mexico, Texas, Milwaukee (where the starting grid was based on championship points) and Michigan (where the starting grid was based on practice times). Brack has scored championship points in eight of 11 starts this season and has led a series-high 472 laps, including 443 on ovals.
• Patrick Carpentier (Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Reynard) of the Player's Forsythe Racing Team has posted podium finishes in his past two FedEx Championship Series starts, beginning with his first career victory at Michigan International Speedway last month. He followed that with a runner-up effort at Chicago and has collected 36 of his 51 championship points in the past two events to move from 21st to ninth place in the FedEx Championship Series championship.
• Patrick Carpentier's Player's Forsythe Racing teammate, Alex Tagliani (Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Reynard) has scored championship points in five consecutive starts and six of his past seven, after going scoreless through his first four starts of the season. Included in his current run is Tagliani's career-best finish of second at Toronto, as well as back-to-back sixth-place finishes at Michigan and Chicago. His current scoring run has moved Tagliani from 25th to 15th in the FedEx Championship Series championship, with 38 points.
• Memo Gidley (Target Toyota/Lola) of Target Chip Ganassi Racing has posted top-five finishes in two of his past four starts, including a career-best finish of second at Cleveland and a career-best oval result of fifth at Chicago. Despite making only five starts since joining the Target Ganassi team prior to Round 8 at Portland, Gidley stands fifth in the FedEx Championship Series with 134 laps led, including 68 at Michigan and a race-high 57 at Cleveland. He stands 17th in the FedEx Championship Series championship, with 27 points.
• Rookie Scott Dixon (Powerware Panasonic PacWest Toyota/Reynard) of the PacWest Racing Group has scored championship points in seven of his past nine FedEx Championship Series starts, dating to his first career victory at Nazareth, which made him, at age 20 years, nine months and 14 days, the youngest driver ever to win a major open-wheel event. Also included in Dixon's run is a podium finish of third at Milwaukee and top-five results of fourth at Chicago and fifth at Toronto. Dixon, who holds a commanding 69-27 lead over Bruno Junqueira (Target Toyota/Lola) of Target Chip Ganassi Racing in the battle for the $50,000 Jim Trueman Rookie of the Year Award, has moved into sixth place in the FedEx Championship Series championship with 69 points. Dixon also leads the series in laps led, with 1,583 of a possible 1,629 and miles completed 2,405.840 of a possible 2,509.607.

IRL
Sparta, Ky. (August 11, 2001) – Kelley Racing teammates Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore will start on the front row for Sunday’s Belterra Casino Indy 300 at the Kentucky Speedway. Sharp earned his third pole position this season, the fifth of his Indy racing career, after averaging 214.598 mph around the relatively flat 1.5-mile speedway.
“We stuck a new engine in last night which ran pretty well this morning and again right now,” said Sharp, who was second on Friday’s speed chart. “We didn’t really change the car that much, we just tweaked it, added a little here, added a little there, made a slight change in the tire pressures and it all came together a lot more faster than I thought it would.”
Sharp, who was fastest in this morning’s practice session with a lap at 214.379 mph, was surprised that he was able to match that speed in qualifying. “I was drafting in practice. I ran a 214.4 for two laps when I was following (Felipe) Giaffone around. I felt honestly I could run a mid to high 213 (mph). I was amazed at how fast we ran.”
This is the second time this season that both Kelley Racing cars have started on the front row. Dismore earned the pole at Texas in June with Sharp starting alongside. The positions will be reversed when they take the green flag at Kentucky.
“Overall, I’m happy,” said Dismore, whose car is powered by an Ilmor-prepared Oldsmobile engine. “I’m thrilled it’s an all Kelley front row. Hopefully, tomorrow we can keep it that way, only we can reverse the order.”
The all Kelley front row is flanked by an all Infiniti power second row with Eddie Cheever edging Robbie Buhl for the third starting spot.
“We made a mistake on the gearing this afternoon in qualifying,” said Cheever, who is still looking for Infiniti’s first pole. “We kept hovering between a gear that’s too short and a gear that’s too long. Once we get the gearing right, we’ll be okay.”
Both Infiniti drivers have a car capable of running with the lead pack all day. Now it’s a matter of staying out of trouble, running consistent laps until it’s time to make the final charge to the checkered flag.
“It’s a very long race,” said Cheever. “The Infiniti 35A engine has been particularly strong on these 1.5-mile ovals and it’s a very drivable engine in traffic. We’re looking forward to tomorrow.”
Greg Ray will start fifth tomorrow. Ray, who has started from the pole 14 times in his career, lost a half-shaft during this morning’s practice session. Just to be safe, his crew changed the right side suspension in the hour between practice and qualifying.
“We really got lucky not to total the race car,” said Ray. “We were very, very lucky not to have a huge crash because of that. We had to replace the whole right side suspension. You don’t really know what kind of damage that half-shaft did coming out the back.”
A two-hour window was scheduled between morning practice and qualifying but a blanket of thick fog shrouded the track when teams arrived this morning, causing practice to be delayed. Drivers sat waiting in their cars warming their engines when word came that the medical evacuation helicopter was still grounded in Lexington 45 miles away.
Practice got underway as soon as the helicopter lifted off and the full session was completed without incident.
The field takes the green flag at 12:30 EDT with live television coverage provided by ABC-TV.
